Malaysia's famous Blogger Raja Petra

Controversial from the word go, loved and hated in equal measure-Raja Petra is one of Malaysia’s top high profile bloggers. His full name is Raja Petra Kamarudin and he is a Malaysian blogger and chairman of Malaysian Civil Liberties movement and a political activist.

According to Pinah.com, Raja Petra was born in the year 1950 and got his education at Alice Smith school and Malay college Kuala Kangsar and finally at Victoria institution. It is said that at the age of 23, he married his 18year old Marina Lee Binti Abdullah in the year 1973 on the 14th of the month April. She is a book publisher and they are blessed with five children.

Despite the controversy that courts his name and his views especially on the political forum-Raja Petra has loyalty links as he is a nephew to the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah who turns out to be the eleventh King of Malaysia and the seventh Sultan of Selangor. His political journey to stardom and controversy is said to have started in the year 1998 after the arrest of Malaysia’s deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim back then.

Controversial as he is, Raja Petra has been arrested a couple of times that at one time he had to run to exile for some time. His woes with the political establishment are well known and in the year 2001-he was arrested on charges of plotting to overthrow the government of the Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad at that time.

He has advocated for transparency, accountability, justice, and end to corruption and development in the Malaysian political class. Deemed very critical of the government especially in regards to his writings on his blog and twitter and other online forums like Malaysia today. If there is one personality who has vehemently fought for the bloggers in Malaysia-that man is Raja Petra.

Despite the many police visits and arrest he has gone through-he has maintained a hard stance on his views and continues to do so. Talk about Libel, Sedition, he has been through it all and a host of other cases. Ultimately bold, courageous, passionate and one who fights for what is right. He is none other than Raja Petra
